Flashback Friday #3 - Beneath Medicine Tree

FLASHBACK FRIDAY IS A WEEKLY SHORT BLURB ABOUT AN OLDER RELEASE I HAVE BEEN ENJOYING AND THINK YOU SHOULD ALL LISTEN TO AS WELL. THIS IS NOT A REVIEW, AS MUCH AS A, "HEY, REMEMBER HOW GOOD THIS IS? NO? WELL LISTEN AGAIN!"

This week, the flashback pick is not some upbeat album meant to get you moving or late night sing alongs, but instead, this week is all about music meant to move you. Copeland's debut album, "Beneath Medicine Tree [released in 2003], is a beautiful showcase of melancholy emo pop that drips with passionate lyrics and beautiful instrumentation. The album begins with a wonderful yet simple intro song and then builds with a mix of acoustic and electric guitars while vocalist Aaron Marsh twists tales of loss and desire. Personally, I don't think they can ever write a song more perfect than, "California," and with one listen, I think you may agree. It's an amazing acoustic song about missing that special someone and, though cliche in subject matter, is done too well to deny the talent presented. I know Spring is here, and a lot of us are going to want to bust out our favorite pop punk albums to prepare for summer, but on the dreary days that will lead into a rainy April, spin this, kick back, and let the sound take you over for awhile. In the course of 45min. you'll fall in love, lose that special someone, deal with their loss, try to win them back, and learn to live with the past without ever removing your headphones and to me, it just doesn't get much better than that

Suggested listening:
"California"
"Take Care"
"There Cannot Be A Close Second"
