Flashback Friday #4 - Say It Like You Mean It

FLASHBACK FRIDAY IS A WEEKLY SHORT BLURB ABOUT AN OLDER RELEASE I HAVE BEEN ENJOYING AND THINK YOU SHOULD ALL LISTEN TO AS WELL. THIS IS NOT A REVIEW, AS MUCH AS A, "HEY, REMEMBER HOW GOOD THIS IS? NO? WELL LISTEN AGAIN!"
This week, the flashback pick is the kind of album that can serve as the soundtrck for multiple years of your life. I know that seems like a large statement, especially considering this is a pop punk album, but I guess it's one of those things that has to happen to you to believe. "Say it Like You Mean It," the debut from The Starting Line thrust the band to the forefront of the pop punk scene with the now essential emo anthem, "The Best of Me [seriosuly it's on itunes emo playlist]," and packed clubs across America. The album hosts nothing outside the typical young love/teen angst/dream themes of any pop punk album, but something about the sincerity of Kenny Vasoli's vocals just get under a listener's skin and you become an addict of the simple chords and sing-along inducing tunes. With Spring having just sprung, it's time to start busting out the albums you know every word to and always play with the windows rolled down on a summer's day and for me, "Say it Like You Mean It," will always be of those album. From the desire to attain your dreams ["Given The Chance"], to the writer recovering from a break-up ["Up and Go"], I feel like The Starting line was somehow able to take my life between 15-18 and turn it into one of the catchiest pop punk album I've ever heard.

Suggested listening:
"Best of Me"
"Given The Chance"
"Left Coast Envy"
