Usually when my friends say "here, check out my buddy's band" I brace for the worst. For the first time in quite a while I am instead left with an amazing new band to love.
Oshtemo's demo starts out with "state of psychosis", which is a perfect example of what metalcore should be. This song grabs your testicles (or ovaries) and doesn't let go until the very end. All the riffs are tight, and the breakdown is brutal. The only thing that could have made this song better would have been some gang vocals near the end of the breakdown.
The next track is titled "the cycle". It starts off acoustically then punches you in the face with some chug chug metal riffage. It speeds up in the verse for some great 2-step oppurtunities. The guitars are technical and clean, which is rare from a local band. The time changes are executed perfectly, and it all flows in to the solo as smooth as butter. The blastbeat drumming is intense, and amazing. Harmonized guitars rule this song, and the outro/breakdown is epic.
The last track on the demo is "revelations". This has some awesome "going in to battle" galloping guitar parts with some soloing going on. By the books metal, just the way Odin intended. About half way through the song slows down to about half time to get in some great guitar playing going, just to speed back up to oblivion. Oh shit, what's this? The song stops, but then get ready. Here comes the gang vocals breakdown that wet dreams are made of. Not only that but lets show off the awesome guitar work one more time before we break it down one last time. I think I need a cigarette...
If Oshtemo's coming to your town, you best be ready. They take no prisoners and are metal as all hell. Brutal low vocals, Booming blastbeats, and Screaming guitar work. Can you say metal love?
